Have an Empty Room why not rent it for storage

Well, I was reading online about all of these passive income things that people can do to make money, such as selling something on Etsy or eBay, or selling all of your family heirlooms that you no longer want.

But I was thinking of other things in my home and looking at what I could do to make a little money, should I need it. I know that I have a store right now, and eventually, when I retire, I won’t have a store.

But right now, we don’t have any room in our store to store extra inventory of just supplies to augment, so I’m not running out of things. I have a backup stock. So I’m using that little room right now.

I have an extra room with a door to the outside with a keypad lock, and I can come and go into the room. It does have a door into my house, but I could put a lock on that if I wanted to. And I thought it’s big enough to be a bedroom, but I didn’t want to rent it out long term to anyone unless, possibly down the road, I need a caregiver as I age, and I can’t, you know, my mobility slows down.

That might be an option. But in the meantime, I could probably rent it out to a small business owner who needs a little extra storage but doesn’t want to have a big commercial space that might be a little more expensive.

Now, obviously, there are a lot of hurdles and legal issues you have to ask yourself about this. Do you know the person? How often can they come to your house? Or can they come to you to do this at all? Because if you have an HOA or any covenants on your home or where your house is, you may not be able to have a business in your home; you have to look at those things first.

But then there’s, you know, how often can they come to your house and load and unload because you don’t want your neighbors to get angry that a UPS guy is dropping off 300 little boxes in your driveway, and they don’t come and put them away right away, either.

You know, they can’t have anything flammable or possibly illegal in the room, so there’s a lot of negotiation there at your comfort level. But I’m thinking about that possibility. I may not do it, but it is there.

I was looking around my house, thinking about how to do those things. So you might want to look around your house, too, to consider alternatives to getting a roommate or something. What could you do with that extra room to generate a little income?

But it’s food for thought. Bye.
